The Mission of the School District of Beloit, committed to excellence and strengthened and enriched by diversity, is to prepare each student to compete, contribute and thrive as an admirable citizen in a rapidly changing world by engaging students in a wide variety of high quality, relevant programs in partnership with families, schools and the stateline community. Fulfilling this mission, in part, requires attracting and retaining high quality educators. Students and educators need access to tools and resources that will assist in accomplishing the mission.
Communication between, the board of education, administration, and professional educators is critical. Meeting and conferring about topics and issues impacting student achievement provides an avenue for all stakeholders to share input. When effective communication skills, such as those outlined in chapter 9 of the text, are used, this process can create a shared vision and fosters a sense of ownership for everyone involved. Districts that retain some avenue for professional educators to offer input about topics such as professional development, technology needs and the working environment as it pertains to student learning will be able to attract and retain quality educators.

I agree with all your points and I am also concerned about the retention of and recruitment of new teachers to the profession. I believe that every school district should continue to offer educational enticements or rewards to their teachers. I also believe as you said that communication is key and that often we lose sight of our end goal because communication breaks down and people begin digging their heels in and bashing each other. Open lines of communication are a must.
ReplyDeletePeg,
ReplyDeleteI really like your strong stance on shared input. Just as it takes many educators to help a student find success, it takes shared input to get all possible outcomes for a situation. Your video is a great example of what NOT do to with a shared input approach! :)
